Girltime In My Hometown Of Hercules

January 18, 2017

There’s nothing like going back to your hometown, where your roots were planted, and where your story began. For mine it started in the small bay area suburb of Hercules. The house I grew up in was the first developments there. I was a part of the 80’s-90’s latch key generation. When it was safe to leave your kids at home while parents worked–at least that’s what they thought. I spent most of my time hanging out with my cousin who lived a couple blocks away from me and the friends that turned into family a.k.a. gang. It was that gangsta “thug life” era and we were young and rebellious.

Now three decades later we are mothers, professionals, etc… and turned out to be some responsible adults; I would say. Never give up on a rebellious teen because some hard lessons are the life lessons needed to understand life for all it is. If you ever wonder why God would allow such brokenness to happen in life; it’s only because we live in a broken world.

“Only God can turn mess into a message, a test into a testimony, a trial into a triumph, a victim into a victory.”

I was reminded of this as we started the new year and as I spread the warrior life & style message. It’s so important to embrace every season in life, the good and the bad. Though I know I caused myself much pain in my younger day–I have all the patience now to handle the most difficult situations and even the most difficult people.

All because I was a difficult person and had to walk through some difficult situations. God has a funny way of using all those negative places and brings his healing light to it. Don’t get me wrong my family knows me best and knows I still work everyday at it.

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.… ~2 Corinthians 12:9

Coming back to Hercules always brings back those memories and I can’t help but pass by my childhood home. All those memories that are truly apart of my heart. I know so much has changed since I’ve lived there but happy I still have a few friends that are still rooted in that city and now have their kids growing up there. Thank God they are very different from we were! They actually like to make fun of us because we don’t hide our past since they ended up being some of the best lessons that we can teach them.

Hercules makes a good meeting point for my girls as we are all spread out now. We planned a late Christmas New Year celebration. Where we bean bandoozled eachother for exchange gifts. I was happy that we were able to meet at a family friend’s restaurant, The Powder Keg. It is located in the newer downtown area of Hercules which I will say is very nice and have a few friends that live in this newly developed area. They served my kind of food, organic, in season, pub and seafood. So yummy and highly recommend especially for a girls night out. Thankful for the hospitality and round of drinks they blessed us with.

A little behind on the blogs with recovering from the travelling and other stuff in the beginning of the year but always sharing on the social networks so don’t forget to connect as I continue to share all the things I love in this warrior life>>> faith, family, fashion, food and fun! Looking forward to more adventures in the new years and more girl’s night out!
